Unlock PDF
Remove password protection from a PDF you own, using its password
Unlock PDF removes a PDF's password protection and permission restrictions — but only after verifying the correct password, even for files that are readable without a password but still have an owner password restricting printing, copying or editing.

Everything you need to know about unlocking PDFs
What does "unlocking" a PDF actually mean?
PDFs can carry two different kinds of protection: an open password (required just to view the file at all) and restrictions (the file opens freely, but printing, copying, or editing is disabled — set with a separate owner password). This tool is for documents you own and whose password you know — enter it and we remove whichever protection it unlocks. We don't remove protection from a file without its correct password.
When you actually need this
- Removing a password you no longer need on your own document, for easier day-to-day access.
- Lifting print/copy restrictions you set yourself on a file you have the rights to use freely.
Going the other direction
If you need to *add* protection instead — say, before sending a sensitive document — Protect PDF adds a password the recipient will need to open the file.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can this remove a password I don't know?
No — a correct password is always required and verified before any protection is removed, even for a PDF you can already open freely. This isn't a password-cracking tool; it requires proof you're authorized to remove the protection.
What if the PDF opens without a password but I still can't print or copy from it?
That's an owner-password restriction — the file is freely readable, but editing, printing, or copying permissions are locked by a separate owner password, which this tool still requires before lifting those restrictions.
What happens if I enter the wrong password?
You get a clear "Incorrect password" error — nothing is removed, and the file isn't touched.
Does this tool send my PDF to a server?
Yes — your file is uploaded securely, processed, and deleted from our servers within 1 hour.
Is this tool free to use?
Yes — completely free, with no signup required.
