Everything you need to know about cropping images
What does cropping do?
Cropping cuts an image down to a smaller rectangular region you define — removing everything outside that area permanently, rather than resizing or scaling the existing content.
When you actually need this
- Removing unwanted background or edges from a photo.
- Matching a specific aspect ratio required by a platform (square for a profile photo, 16:9 for a thumbnail).
- Focusing attention on the relevant part of a wider photo.
Crop vs. resize — different jobs
Cropping removes part of the image; Image Resizer changes the dimensions of the whole image without cutting anything out. If you need both — a specific area at a specific size — crop first, then resize the result.

Frequently Asked Questions
How do I know which pixel coordinates to use?
Left and top set where the crop box starts, measured from the image's top-left corner; width and height set how big the box is from there. Check your image's dimensions first so the box stays within bounds.
What happens if I set width or height to 0?
It's rejected with a clear error — a 0-pixel crop isn't a valid image region, so this tool checks for it upfront rather than letting it fail with a confusing error.
Does cropping change the image format?
No — the cropped output keeps the same format as your original (JPEG stays JPEG, PNG stays PNG, and so on).
Does this tool send my image to a server?
Yes — your image is uploaded securely, cropped, and deleted from our servers within 1 hour.
Is this tool free to use?
Yes — completely free, with no signup and no watermark on the output.
