Everything you need to know about rotating images
Why does a photo end up sideways?
This is usually a camera orientation issue — a phone photo taken sideways sometimes displays correctly on the device that took it (thanks to orientation metadata) but sideways everywhere else, especially after the metadata is stripped or ignored by another platform.
When you actually need this
- Fixing a sideways or upside-down photo before uploading it somewhere that ignores orientation metadata.
- Straightening a scanned image that went into the scanner at an angle.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I rotate by an angle other than 90, 180 or 270 degrees?
Yes — any angle is accepted, which is what makes this different from a simple quarter-turn rotate button. A small angle like 3 or 5 degrees is exactly what you need to straighten a slightly tilted scan or photo.
What happens to the corners when I rotate at an odd angle?
Rotating at an angle that isn't a multiple of 90 degrees changes the image's bounding box, so the output canvas expands to fit the whole rotated image rather than cropping any of it off.
Does rotating affect image quality?
The image is re-encoded after rotating, at a quality that keeps it visually close to the original. For large quality-sensitive rotations, start from the highest-resolution source you have.
Does this tool send my image to a server?
Yes — your image is uploaded securely, rotated, and deleted from our servers within 1 hour.
Is this tool free to use?
Yes — completely free, with no signup and no watermark on the output.
