Everything you need to know about ROI
What does ROI actually measure?
Return on Investment expresses the profit from an investment as a percentage of what it cost โ a standardized way to compare the profitability of different projects or campaigns, even when their absolute cost and return numbers are very different in scale.
What ROI doesn't tell you
ROI alone doesn't account for *when* the return happened โ a 20% return over one month is very different from a 20% return over three years, even though the ROI figure looks identical. Factor in the time period when comparing two ROI figures.

Frequently Asked Questions
What's the actual formula?
Net profit is gain minus cost. ROI percentage is that net profit divided by the cost, multiplied by 100 โ so a 1,000 cost that returns 1,300 gives a net profit of 300 and an ROI of 30%.
Does this account for the time the investment took?
No โ this is a simple ROI figure, not an annualized return. A 30% ROI over one month and a 30% ROI over five years are very different outcomes in practice, so factor in the time period yourself when comparing options.
Can ROI be negative?
Yes โ if the gain is less than the cost, both the net profit and ROI percentage come back negative, showing a loss rather than a return.
Does this tool send my numbers to a server?
Yes โ your figures are sent to our servers to compute the result and the result is returned to you; we don't store the values.
Is this tool free to use?
Yes โ completely free, with no signup required.
