Everything you need to know about Twitter Card tags
What is a Twitter Card?
A Twitter Card is the rich preview (image, title, description) X/Twitter shows when a link is posted, controlled by a specific set of meta tags separate from — but similar to — Open Graph tags used by other platforms.
When you actually need this
- Any page likely to be shared on X/Twitter, to control exactly what preview shows up.
- Choosing between a summary card (small thumbnail) and a large-image card, depending on how visual the content is.
Twitter Card vs. Open Graph
X/Twitter will fall back to your Open Graph tags if dedicated Twitter Card tags aren't present, but adding both gives you explicit control over each platform's preview independently rather than relying on a fallback.

Frequently Asked Questions
What's the difference between "summary" and "summary_large_image"?
summary shows a small square thumbnail next to the text, while summary_large_image shows a full-width image above it — the large-image variant is generally better for visual content.
Do I still need Open Graph tags if I add Twitter Card tags?
Yes — Twitter Card tags only control the preview on X/Twitter specifically. Other platforms (Facebook, LinkedIn, Slack, etc.) read Open Graph tags, so most sites use both. Our Open Graph Generator produces those.
What happens if I don't fill in every field?
Only the fields you provide are included as meta tags — card type is always set, but title, description, image, site and creator are each added only when you've entered a value.
Does this tool send my inputs to a server?
Yes — they're sent to our servers to build the tags and the result is returned to you; nothing is stored.
Is this tool free to use?
Yes — completely free, with no signup required.
